Scale Factor in Double Parton Collisions and Parton Densities in Transverse Space

چکیده

The scale factor σeff , which characterizes double parton collisions in high energy hadron interactions, is a direct manifestation of the distribution of the interacting partons in transverse space, in such a way that different distributions give rise to different values of σeff in different double parton collision processes. We work out the value of the scale factor in a few reactions of interest, in a correlated model of the multi-parton density of the proton recently proposed. Unintegrated parton distributions and prompt photon hadroproduction

We introduce a general expression which enables the parton distribution, unintegrated over the parton transverse momentum, to be obtained from the conventional parton densities. We use the formalism to study the effects of the transverse momentum qt of the incoming partonic system on the calculation of the transverse momentum spectra of prompt photons produced in high energy pp and pp̄ collision...

Towards a global analysis of polarized parton distributions

We present a technique for implementing in a fast way, and without any approximations, higher-order calculations of partonic cross sections into global analyses of parton distribution functions. The approach, which is set up in Mellin-moment space, is particularly suited for analyses of future data from polarized proton-proton collisions, but not limited to this case. The usefulness and practic...

The first fermi in a high energy nuclear collision. At very high energies, weak coupling, non–perturbative methods can be used to study classical gluon production in nuclear collisions. One observes in numerical simulations that after an initial " formation " time, the produced partons are on shell, and their subsequent evolution can be studied using transport theory. At the initial formation t...

Parton Percolation and J/ψ Suppression

The geometric clustering of partons in the transverse plane of nuclear collisions leads for increasing A or √ s to percolation. In the resulting condensate, the partons are de-confined but not yet in thermal equilibrium. We discuss quarkonium dissociation in this precursor of the quark-gluon plasma, with an onset of dissociation when the saturation scale of the parton condensate reaches that of...

xF dependence of Drell-Yan transverse momentum broadening

We analyze xF dependence of Drell-Yan transverse momentum broadening in hadron-nucleus collisions. In terms of generalized factorization theorem, we show that the xF dependence of transverse momentum broadening, ∆〈q2 T 〉(xF ), can be calculated in perturbative QCD. We demonstrate that ∆〈q2 T 〉(xF ) is a good observable for studying the effects of initial-state multiple scattering and extracting...
